Many of you probably think, “Yeah, I should probably buy organic….but this non-organic product is cheaper…”
How do I know this? Because I’ve been there! I’ve done that! I’ve SAID that!
So why should we REALLY eat organic foods?
- There’s some really scary stuff in and on our foods! Herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, growth hormones, antibiotics, etc. Ok…so…what? Many of these chemicals allowed here have been banned in other countries. The good news is that a study in 2005 demonstrated that in as little as 15 days, children adopting a primarily organic diet experienced a dramatic decrease in urinary concentrations of organophosphorus pesticides. What the heck is an organophosphorus pesticide you say? It’s a neurotoxin – which means it damages brain and nerve cells. It was originally developed as a toxic nerve agent during World War I. You can read more about the effects of these here.
- It’s good for the earth. Seriously. With organic fertilizers, proper crop rotation, and companion planting, responsible farmers help preserve our rivers and lakes.
- Eating organic may reduce your cancer risk. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers 60% of herbicides, 90% of fungicides, and 30 percent of insecticides potentially cancer-causing.
Here’s what happened to a family who switched to all organic:
Wow. That’s some pretty scary stuff!

I plan to cook more, and go out less! This last year some major medical issues came up, leaving my husband and daughter to do to much box meals and freezer meals (Along with to many take out nights!). This year I hope to do allot more healthy cooking.

I’m so sorry to hear about your medical issues! They definitely put a damper on things for me this past year, too. I’m glad that you’ve got plans to start eating healthier this year, though!
