People choose to live a vegan lifestyle for many different reasons. These include ethical and environmental considerations. However, the health benefits of a vegan lifestyle can’t be ignored. If you are considering adopting a new diet or want to learn why so many people have been choosing to go vegan in recent years, read on!
Healthier skin and hair
After making the switch, many people who live a vegan lifestyle have reported improved skin and even thicker, healthier-looking hair. This is because of a change in diet leading to more fruits and vegetables which contain vitamins such as A, C, E that are essential for healthy skin from within. You can also find beauty products with natural ingredients that will help you maintain beautiful skin without any side effects or harsh chemicals. Many of the products that we make at Witchistry Bathhouse and Soapery are vegan.
In addition to this, your body is absorbing fewer toxins by eating only plant-based food free from pesticides and additives found in non-vegan diets, which may contribute to acne breakouts or other symptoms related to poor health overall.
Reduced risk of diabetes
Many people who live a vegan lifestyle have reported a reduced risk of diabetes. This is because the typical non-vegan diet contains animal products that contain high levels of cholesterol and saturated fats that can contribute to weight gain, obesity, and eventually Type II Diabetes. Because my late father had diabetes, this is probably one of my biggest reasons for choosing this lifestyle.
By eating only plant-based food free from animal products, you are greatly reducing your chances or risk of developing this serious health condition or reversing its symptoms if already living with it. In addition to following a vegan diet, studies show that exercise has been shown to reduce risks further by increasing insulin sensitivity in adults diagnosed with pre-diabetes conditions such as metabolic syndrome.
It promotes weight loss
Perhaps one of my favorite health benefits of a vegan lifestyle, it can help you lose weight (provided you’re not just eating Frankenfoods, or foods that aren’t good for you but are labeled “vegan”). This is because of the low fat, high-calorie diet that often accompanies following this type of eating plan. Eliminating animal products that contain saturated fats and cholesterol will greatly reduce your chances or risk for heart disease as well as other related illnesses such as cancer and diabetes, which are all linked to obesity in some way.
In addition, a healthy vegan diet promotes lean muscle mass while reducing excess body fat by maintaining proper nutrition through whole plant-based foods rich in fiber, so be sure to look at some tasty buddha bowl recipes! These types of meals contain vitamins and minerals without added sugars found in processed meats like hot dogs, sausages, or bacon, just to name a few examples.
Vegans enjoy lower cholesterol levels
Most people who live a vegan lifestyle have reported lower cholesterol levels. This is because of the low fat, high fiber plant-based diet that often accompanies following this type of eating plan, which helps to reduce blood pressure and bad (LDL) cholesterol by eliminating foods like processed meats or fast food containing saturated fats found in meat products such as hamburgers or bacon just to name a few examples.
I think we can agree there are many health benefits of a vegan lifestyle. From an improved appearance to a healthier body on the inside – the list is endless! However, if you’re not ready to go full vegan, consider doing it during the week. Or, start with a couple of days and slowly add more vegan days until you’re vegan full-time.
