Imagination and creativity are both vital to living a happy life. They are needed to create anything that feels more like a labor of love, rather than just labor. However, as children and adults we are often taught to conform which can be stifling for creativity.
It’s important to be conscious of keeping creativity and imagination alive so you can get satisfaction from life. There are many simple ways you can do this. Take a look.
Take a Walk
It sounds so simple but walking can do wonders for your imagination. Firstly, walking is physical exercise which promotes good blood and oxygen flow to your brain. This means that your brain has what it needs for creativity to flourish.
Secondly, taking a walk outside changes your scenery. You see new things, meet new people, have new experiences. Every walk is different and it will trigger new sensations and emotions for your imagination to work from.
Play Games
Just because you’re an adult, it doesn’t mean you have to stop playing. Playing games such as video games, traditional board games and even online solitaire, is a great way to engage your brain and have fun at the same time. There’s a reason that children learn through play but that never stops as we get older.
Word games are ideal for strengthening your cognitive abilities and allowing you to be creative. Even if you have to use a word unscrambler to give yourself a chance at winning, it’s a fantastic way to learn something new.
Daydream
As a society, we have lost the art of boredom. With screens in front of our faces at every opportunity, we are constantly entertained. However, there is beauty in boredom.
A creative person staring into space is never just staring into space; they are dreaming. Allowing yourself to daydream is a great way to collect ideas for new creative projects.
Tell Stories
There are many different ways to tell stories. It could be a fictional story that you write down while spending time alone. It could be telling your friends about an event that happened in your life.
Sharing a story means having a voice. It’s a way to convey emotion and this sparks creativity and imagination. Never be afraid to share what’s on your mind.
Doodle
You don’t have to be a talented artist to doodle. Doodling isn’t just a way to be creative- it’s also very therapeutic. Most people can doodle without having to think too much about it and then find themselves completely relaxed.
Doodling could lead to you being inspired by artwork and wanting to take your doodling to the next level. You may start with shading or trying to draw someone’s portrait and it could lead to a stunning mural. These are all excellent ways to exercise your creativity and strengthen your skills.
Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
