Here are some things you can do right now to keep pests from coming into your home.
Seal Holes And Gaps
You’ll probably find big holes that need to be filled, but pay close attention to the smaller ones as well. Gaps can be bigger in your attic or garage, and they can be smaller where pipes and wires come into your home. Small bugs and rodents can get in through small holes, so closing them up will help keep them out.
Fix Screens
Window and door screens are only useful if they are not torn or broken. If the railing and frame are in good shape, it doesn’t take long to change the screens.
Look At Crawl Spaces
Take a flashlight and look around in your crawl spaces and/or basement. Look for big, obvious nests of shredded material. These are signs that rodents have been there. Watch out for smaller signs, too, like lines of ants or dead or crawling cockroaches looking for a place to live.
Call In The Professionals
You can do some things on your own, but they might not be enough to completely solve the problem. Termites are a problem in many homes that people don’t see. If you’ve seen termites, it’s important to have Termite Treatment done by a professional. Where pest problems are common, and you want to hire an Exterminator. A pest service company will work from the outside in to get rid of a pest problem. This is the best way to get rid of pests.
Trim Plants And Bushes
If you have bushes, shrubs, or trees that touch your house or roof, they can help ants and other bugs get into your home. Keep these plants about 3 to 6 inches from the outside of your house.
Remove Debris From Your Garden
Small animals and insects often hide in damp, dark places. Ants and termites can live in firewood, so store it at least 20 feet away from your house. And mosquitoes love still water because it lets them lay their eggs. Keep trash and weeds out of your yard, patio, deck, and garage. Make sure the lids of your trash cans fit tightly and clean the cans and the area around them often to get rid of trash and spills that pests can eat.
It’s Important To Keep Things Clean
The cleaner your home is, the fewer pests will want to live there. Make it hard for pests to live in your house. Pests are less likely to live and breed in a place that doesn’t feel like home, but cleanliness can only do so much. From the outside, try to keep branches and bushes trimmed away from your walls so that bugs don’t decide to move in. The best way to keep your home pest-free is to have professionals check it once a year. They will find any problems early on.
