Pursue Your Passion! Every now and then, you might find yourself staring at your computer screen in your workplace, wondering how you even ended up in position. Maybe you got that job through an agency or perhaps you’ve been with that company since you graduated. Whatever the circumstances are, there’s probably a good chance that you settled down because it was convenient, stable, and offered some decent benefits.
Sadly, that level of security and comfort can really put a wrench in our past plans and passions. Take it from someone who, for over a decade, teaches people how to pursue your passion (and has done it themselves!). So if you’re tired of doing a boring day job and want to transition to something you really love, here are a couple of tips to help you out.
Look for ways to optimize your time
First, you’ll want to look for ways to optimize your time. This may involve securing part-time work to help you gain a secondary source of income to fund your new passion, or it could involve dropping some of your existing commitments to make time for studying new skills. If you’re serious about moving on from your day job, then you absolutely need to learn to make the most of every hour of the day.
Figure out the best way to make a living
When it comes to embracing work that you truly love, it’s important that you find a way to actually make money from it. For instance, you might love painting and drawing, but without a way to actually make a living from it, it’s ultimately going to stay as a hobby. This can be extremely challenging, so it’s important not to overlook this step as you’ll eventually need to find a way to turn your passion into a profitable venture. However, if you are committed to making a living drawing, you could offer design services for entrepreneurs (for example, I’m a novelist and spend hundreds of dollars on every book cover!). My 16 year old makes a killing selling her art on Red Bubble!
Get certified and work on your credentials
If possible, you’ll want to try and get certified as soon as possible to help you back up your claims regarding your skills. You could book a test now to get your certification for something like a fitness instructor or even a tech specialist. These credentials can help you land a much better job and it’ll help you find clients if you’re interested in becoming a freelancer.
Seek support from friends and family members
It’s also important that you seek out support from friends and family members that are willing to help. While some people do prefer to work out everything on their own, it’s important that you try and look for networking opportunities so you can speed up certain processes, or get support from people who are more experienced than you.
Start saving up as you make the transition
Lastly, don’t forget that you’re going to need to start saving money if you really want to make the transition from your boring day job to work that you truly love. This is because it takes money to pursue your passion. It’s often a good idea to have a large amount of savings first, but you might find it easier to maintain some kind of steady (even if it’s not very high) level of income so you don’t have to worry about running out of funds so soon.
