The art of adulting: When we’re still children we so often can’t wait to grow up and become adults, with nobody to tell us what to do or what time to go to bed we just can’t wait! As Simba from the Lion King quickly realises— growing up and facing your responsibilities isn’t all it’s cracked up to be! You’ve got bills now. Annnnnd car payments, mortgages, and maybe even diapers to change. But what are the signs that we’re all grown up and how can we counteract the mundane to add a little excitement to adult lives?

Here are four signs that you’ve mastered the art of adulting:
1. Money—the epitome of the art of adulting
Let’s be honest, being solely responsible for your own finances is a little bit worrying at times. Long gone are the days when you could ask your parents for ice cream and not have to worry about how you’re paying for it. But instead of worrying about things like how often should you refinance or how much your phone bill will be this month, why not start a little savings pot for a luxurious day just for you? You can book a spa day or a meal out, or even just take the money to the shops and spend it on what you want, not what you need. Everyone deserves to let their hair down once in a while!
2. Laundry
A lot of people have a love-hate relationship with laundry, it’s a never-ending pile of clothes that one way or another you are going to end up having to deal with, even if you do enjoy the feel of freshly washed and ironed clothes sometimes the chore is just too much to handle, so how about taking it to the laundromat? Actually paying someone else to get it done for you and sitting back to relax leaves you space to get on with other tedious adult responsibilities too!
3. Bedtime
So one of the best things about becoming an adult is being able to go to bed whenever you like right? Well, it’s not quite as simple as that is it? When you’ve got a full-time job, possibly a few kids yourself and a dog by the time 9pm rolls around, you’re desperate to find your pillow and get to sleep ASAP! Of course, we’re grateful for everything we have but making sure we’re getting enough beauty sleep is important the older we get! It’s so unfair that the children get all the energy!
4. Days Out
It’s so frustrating when you’re small and having to rely on the parents to earn money to pay for fun things. We just want to be out having fun all the time, but when you become an adult and have a million other things to think about just getting to the end of the week with enough money to pay for food can be a little bit difficult. But meeting up with friends and making time for socialising is essential too, even if we’d rather stay in bed with a Netflix box set sometimes!
At the end of the day growing up and gaining responsibilities is hard work, but if you try and think more like a child now and then you will free yourself of at least some of the stress of being a full grown adult now!
